Compliance Assistant – Wisbech
An exciting opportunity is available for an individual to join our Wisbech office as a full-time Compliance Assistant. You will perform reviews of client and matter files to ensure compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations and internal policies and procedures, reporting directly to the Practice and Finance Director.
The role:
• Use the Firm’s electronic practice management system (ALB) to perform compliance reviews and monitoring activities on all open matters.
• Analysing the content of client and matter files to ensure all key documentation required to comply with regulations and procedures are available.
• Review client due diligence (CDD) forms and documentation received from fee earners and ensure that they comply with AML regulations and the Firm’s internal policies, controls and procedures.
• Challenge, where required, client and matter information, ensuring satisfactory details are provided, liaising directly with fee earners/assistants where further details are required.
• Report on clients who do not have appropriate CDD and documentation, and liaise with fee earners/assistants to ensure this is obtained.
• Ensure identity checks are conducted within the time frame set out in our internal procedures. .
• Ensure risk assessments and other documentation required to comply with internal policies and anti-money laundering requirements are completed fully, checking with the fee earner where further information is required.
• Escalating issues and repeated non-compliance to HoD/MLRO.
• Esclating any suspicious transactions or activities in an efficient and timely manner.
• Keep up-to-date with any regulatory developments.
• Summarise results of searches in line with Firm procedures.
• Deal with client and matter management on the Firm’s practice management system.
• To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by your manager
About you:
• Previous experience of working in a law or professional services environment.
• Familiarity of UK AML Regulations and compliance requirements is advantageous.
• Proficient in use of Microsoft packages.
• Previous experience of using ALB would be advantageous.
• A strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Ability to work proactively, capable of maintaining organisation and working efficiently.
• Ability to work under pressure and to exercise initiative.
• Ability to solve problems in a practical and methodical way.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication.
• Recognises when to seek assistance and is proactive in doing so.
• Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when necessary.
